چکیده

Some recent works in machine learning and computer vision involve the solution of a bilevel optimization problem. Here the solution of a parameterized lower-level problem binds variables that appear in the objective of an upper-level problem. The lower-level problem typically appears as an argmin or argmax optimization problem. Many techniques have been proposed to solve bi-level optimization problems, including gradient descent, which is popular with current end-to-end learning approaches. In this technical report we collect some results on differentiating argmin and argmax optimization problems with and without constraints and provide some insightful motivating examples.

Application of Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm Techniques to Solve Bi-level Congestion Pricing Problems

The solutions used to solve bi-level congestion pricing problems are usually based on heuristic network optimization methods which may not be able to find the best solution for these type of problems. The application of meta-heuristic methods can be seen as viable alternative solutions but so far, it has not received enough attention by researchers in this field. Therefore, the objective of thi...

A Bi-Level Optimization Approach for Optimal Operation of Distribution Networks with Retailers and Micro-grids

Distributed energy resources (DERs) including distributed generators (DGs) and controllable loads (CLs) are managed in the form of several microgrids (MGs) in active distributions networks (ADNs) to meet the demand locally. On the other hand, some loads of distribution networks (DNs) can be supplied by retailers which participate in wholesale energy markets. Therefore, there are several decisio...

Presentation and Solving Non-Linear Quad-Level Programming Problem Utilizing a Heuristic Approach Based on Taylor Theorem

The multi-level programming problems are attractive for many researchers because of their application in several areas such as economic, traffic, finance, management, transportation, information technology, engineering and so on. It has been proven that even the general bi-level programming problem is an NP-hard problem, so the multi-level problems are practical and complicated problems therefo...

Calmness Modulus of Linear Semi-infinite Programs

Our main goal is to compute or estimate the calmness modulus of the argmin mapping of linear semi-infinite optimization problems under canonical perturbations, i.e., perturbations of the objective function together with continuous perturbations of the right-hand side of the constraint system (with respect to an index ranging in a compact Hausdorff space). Specifically, we provide a lower bound ...
